Discussion on frame structure
From NEC
Summary
This NEC contribution proposes nine specific directions for 6G frame structure, duplexing, and MRSS within the Release 20 study item. The document argues for a unified dynamic TDD/SBFD solution, recommends studying dynamic SBFD and OSFD, supports dynamic MRSS with coarse Day 1 granularity, and generally advocates postponing discussions dependent on unsettled plenary parameters.
Position
NEC proposes postponing discussions on minimum spectrum allocation and UE bandwidth discrepancy optimizations until after RAN plenary parameter guidance. They require UE-specific configurations to be supported within Release 20. For scheduling, they support studying cross-slot scheduling but require the scope to be limited to avoid multi-slot transmissions across slots with different link directions. On duplexing, NEC proposes a unified solution where dynamic TDD is treated as a feature of SBFD, proposes studying dynamic SBFD and Overlapped Subband Full Duplex (OSFD), and states UE-side SBFD can be considered as a duplexing type. For MRSS, they propose studying dynamic methods and support studying coarse granularity (TDM, FDM) for 6G Day 1 with finer granularity deferred to Day 2.

- Proposal 2 (Sec 2.1): Support UE specific configurations within Release 20
- Proposal 3 (Sec 2.1): Support studying cross-slot scheduling but the scope should be limited to avoid multi-slot transmissions across slots with different link directions
- Proposal 4 (Sec 2.2): Unified solution for dynamic TDD and SBFD in which dynamic TDD is a feature of SBFD
- Proposal 5 (Sec 2.2): Study how to support dynamic SBFD in Release 20
- Proposal 6 (Sec 2.2): Study Overlapped Subband Full Duplex (OSFD) within Release 20
- Proposal 7 (Sec 2.2): UE side SBFD duplexing type can be considered in Release 20
- Proposal 8 (Sec 2.3): Study methods to support dynamic MRSS
- Proposal 9 (Sec 2.3): Support studying coarse granularity of MRSS (TDM, FDM) based for 6G Day 1, finer granularity can be used in 6G Day 2
