Views on 6GR waveforms
From CEWiT
Summary
This document from CEWiT presents views on 6G Radio waveforms, containing 3 proposals and 1 observation across sections on DFT-s-OFDM for downlink, OOK-based waveforms for IoT, and waveform multiplexing.
Position
CEWiT proposes supporting DFT-s-OFDM in the downlink to address high PAPR challenges in higher frequency bands, NTN scenarios, and for energy-efficient base station operation, citing simulation results showing substantial PAPR gains especially for higher order modulation schemes like QPSK compared to BPSK. They propose supporting OFDM-OOK waveforms for low-end IoT devices to enable simple hardware, long battery life, and a two-step initial access procedure where low-end devices latch on in step 1. They propose waveform selection capability multiplexed across time-frequency resources and different physical channels/signals based on device capabilities, traffic, data rate requirements, distance, latency, and mobility.
Key proposals
- Proposal 1 (Sec 2.1): Support usage of DFT-s-OFDM in DL.
- Proposal 1 (Sec 2.2): Support for OFDM-OOK kind of waveforms for low end devices.
- Proposal 1 (Sec 2.3): Support for waveform selection for different time/frequency/physical channels/physical signals.
